Down syndrome

Well I'm back, kind of, sort of. I can't believe Down syndrome awareness month is almost over. Just 2 more post. It really hasn't been that bad for me because I just LOVE my little Leighton and I could gush about her all day. She's totally got my heart. I'm so thankful I have a little girl who makes me aware of Down syndrome, because it makes me aware of so much more. I'm proud she's my little baby, and I never want to be without her.

I hope she grows up knowing having Down syndrome is a badge of honor. She will probably be overly confident because she gets so much attention from her family, our friends, and even strangers. I'm so thankful for the friends, and opportunities that have come from having a baby girl who happens to have Down syndrome.

About This Blog-

This blog is mostly about Leighton, and how she has changed our family. We were blessed with our little Leighton in 2011. We didn't know she had a little something extra before her birth. She was born with an extra 21st chromosome. We didn't know it at the time, but she was going to change our lives as most babies do, for the better. This is just a day to day of what life is like having a daughter, or sibling with Down syndrome. It's truthfully in essence the same, if not better as our life before we had her. We do the same things, but some how she makes us better, and happier people. She has become the center of our family. We heard about a boy in college who also had Trisomy 21 wearing a shirt that said High on Chromosomes, and I decided that's what I want Leighton to feel. So I named her blog after that shirt. I want her to feel an extra chromosome is nothing to be ashamed of (it's something she can't change, and you may not believe it, but I wouldn't want that anyway). It's always going to be a part of her. I want her to be proud of it.
